The Octoqin is a modern and absurdist recreation of the traditional Chinese Duxianqin, one-stringed instrument. It was created as part of an artistic intervention to explore the boundaries of what one can consider an instrument, what one can consider a duxianqin, and what one can consider preservation of cultural heritages.
It was created in partnership with the China Conservatory of Music.
Using cutting-edge sound synthesis, etextiles and a plush octopus, the Octoqin is played here at the Chinese Central Conservatory of Music..
