GUKEBOX (pronounced with a ‘j’) is a gif-jukebox that allows visitors to change the animated gif by inserting money into the piece.
Borrowing aesthetics from 1980s arcades and 1990s – 00s gifs, the piece contextualises gifs as cultural artefacts, in the same way music or CDs inside a traditional jukebox are considered. In adding a fiscal association with the low resolution images, GUKEBOX examines the worth of gifs and other low-impact internet creations, and the disconnect between content created online and a fiscal worth.
